Gary Briggle (Major General) is returning to ATC where he was last seen as Sir Joseph Porter in H.M.S. Pinafore. Previous ATC credits include A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Amadeus, Arms and the Man and The Tempest. Recent regional theatre credits include Tateh in Ragtime with Seaside Music Theater, Hot N’ Cole at The Ordway Center, Virginia Opera’s The Mikado, and Voltaire in Dayton Opera’s Candide. He served as artistic director of Lyric Opera Cleveland and was in the resident ensembles of The Minnesota Opera Company and The Children’s Theatre Company in Minneapolis, where he makes his home. Mr. Briggle won a Carbonell Award for Patience at Florida Repertory Theatre and made his Library of Congress debut as P.T. Barnum in the premiere of Barnum’s Bird. This spring he returns to Skylight Opera Theater, where he has performed Sweeney Todd and The Threepenny Opera, to star as Koko in The Mikado for Public Television.
Timothy Connell (Pirate/Policeman) is glad to be making his ATC debut. He has appeared in regional theatre productions of Crazy for You (Bobby Child), Sweet Charity (Oscar), Falsettos (Marvin), La Cage aux Folles, Eubie, and Puttin’ on the Ritz (Carbonell Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor). Mr. Connell appeared on Broadway in Nick and Nora and off-Broadway he performed in The First Step (Premiere), Naked Boys Singing!, Sharon, Anyone Can Whistle (Narrator) and Godspell (John the Baptist/Judas). He toured in the international and national companies of Crazy for You (Bobby Child), The Mystery of Edwin Drood (Mr. Simon Cray), and West Side Story (dance captain). His television credits include All My Children (Arnold the Chicken Shack Employee), Presidential Inaugural Gala 1989 and Great Performances—Oscar Hammerstein Centennial on PBS. After 20 years, he returned to college and graduated from Empire State College in 2002 with a BA in Theatre and Human Development.
Sean David Cooper (Pirate/Policeman) is making his ATC debut. He appeared in the original Broadway cast of Baz Luhrmann’s La Boheme and previously appeared on Broadway in Riverdance! Mr. Cooper’s regional theatre credits include Jesus Christ Superstar, Carousel, Chess, Little Shop of Horrors, La Cage aux Folles, Man of La Mancha, The Diary of Anne Frank, and A Streetcar Named Desire, and he has performed with Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera, Pittsburgh Opera, the Gershwin Theatre in New York, The Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles, and the Curran Theatre in San Francisco. His opera performances include Ariadne auf Naxos, Gianni Schicchi, The Emperor of Atlantis, The Magic Flute, and L’incoronazione di Poppea. Mr. Cooper graduated from the Manhattan School of Music.
Jennifer Goode Cooper (Edith) recently sang the role of Musetta in Baz Luhrmann’s Broadway and Los Angeles productions of Puccini’s La Bohème. She received her BM from NYU, playing Julie Jordan (Carousel) and Fiona MacLaren (Brigadoon). Regionally, she appeared in George M! and The Pajama Game at Goodspeed Opera. Other credits include My Fair Lady, A Christmas Carol and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at North Shore Music Theatre, and Jesus Christ Superstar at Shreveport Opera. Ms. Cooper earned her MM at Manhattan School of Music, singing in Female Chorus in Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia (with Maestro Julius Rudel), and the role of Mary Follet in Mayer’s A Death in the Family. She has played the Firebird Café, sung back-up for Patti LuPone, and worked closely with composers Ricki Ian Gordon and Ben Moore. She earned the 2001 grand prize in the Weill Foundation’s Lenya Competition.
Natalie Charle‘ Ellis (Isabel) is excited to be performing with ATC for the first time. She was recently seen as Roxie in Chicago and was a featured vocalist in Swing, both at Phoenix Theatre. Other favorite roles at Phoenix Theatre include Into the Woods (Cinderella), Something’s Afoot (Hope), My Way, A Christmas Carol and Rumors (Cassie). She was a featured performer on board the S.S. Independence.
Ethan Goldman (Pirate/Policeman) is a senior in the University of Arizona’s Musical Theatre program. Earlier this season at ATC he understudied Haskell Harelik in The Immigrant. He recently appeared in the Arizona Repertory Theatre’s Guys and Dolls as Nicely-Nicely Johnson and in AZOnstage’s Assassins as Guiseppe Zangara. Other Arizona Repertory Theatre credits include Hamlet, Starting Here, Starting Now and Oklahoma!. With the U of A Opera Theatre he appeared in A Little Night Music (Henrik Egerman) and The Gondoliers (Luiz). Mr. Goldman is originally from Tucson.
Michael Gillis (Frederic) is thrilled to be working at ATC for the first time. He was last seen as Tony in West Side Story in the European tour and at the Marriot Theatre in Lincolnshire. Other favorite roles include Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar, Manfred in the world premiere of The Last Bridge, Ren in Footloose, Jack in the 60’s Project, Michael in Smokey Joe’s Café and Todd in Cratchett Farm. He has done concert tours of the US and Europe. Mr. Gillis is a graduate of Northwestern University.
Evan Harrington (Samuel) is happy to be making his ATC debut in The Pirates of Penzance. He has been seen in the national tours of The Music Man (Ewart Dunlop), Kopit and Yeston’s Phantom (Cholet/Phantom understudy) and Camelot (Merlyn/Pellinore). His regional credits include Sweeney Todd (Pirelli), Titanic (Hartley), Oliver! (Mr. Bumble), Forever Plaid (Smudge), Into the Woods (Baker) and Anything Goes (Moonface understudy) Mr. Harrington earned his BFA in musical theatre from the State University of New York, Freedonia.
Michael Scott Harris (Pirate/Policeman) has been a principal soloist with the New York Gilbert and Sullivan Players at City Center, where he’s been featured in H.M.S. Pinafore (Ralph), The Gondoliers (Luiz) and The Mikado (Nanki-Poo.) He recently performed Cavalleria Rusticana (Turiddu) with New Rochelle Opera in New York and Jenufa (Steva) with Vertical Player Opera in Brooklyn. Other recent credits include The Pirates of Penzance and The Scarlet Pimpernel with Sacramento Music Circus. Mr. Harris received his Bachelor of Music from the University of Arizona and his Masters of Music from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
Krista Ann Hinman (Isabel) is delighted to be making her ATC debut. Previous credits include the Witch in Into the Woods, Hermia in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Dorabella in Cosi fan tutte. She has appeared with Kansas City Repertory Theatre, Leawood Stage Company, Starlight Theater and Lyric Opera of Kansas City where she appeared in Cold Sassy Tree and La Boheme. Her directing credits include the operas Hansel und Gretel, Chanticleer and Off 95th. Ms. Hinman earned her MM in vocal performance at the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music.
Morgan James (Mabel) is thrilled to make her ATC debut. Most recently she played Bessie Two in the premiere of River’s End at the Playwright and Musical Conference at the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center in Connecticut. She played Micaela in the Peter Brook adaptation of The Tragedy of Carmen at Two River Theatre Company. Other roles include the Mistress in Evita, Evelyn Nesbit in Ragtime, Kate McGowan in Titanic, Anne in A Little Night Music and Agnes in Agnes of God. Ms. James is a graduate in voice of the Juilliard School.
Wendy Lehr (Ruth) has appeared in many productions at Arizona Theatre Company and was last seen in H.M.S. Pinafore (ariZoni Award for Best Supporting Role in a Musical). Other ATC credits include The Marriage of Bette and Boo, You Can’t Take It With You, Great Expectations, The House of Blue Leaves, Under Milk Wood, Arms and the Man, Candide ,The Matchmaker, The Tempest, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, On the Verge and The Importance of Being Earnest. Recent credits in her hometown of Minneapolis include A Christmas Carol at the Guthrie Theater, A Delicate Balance at The Jungle Theatre and Noises Off at The Park Square Theatre. Ms. Lehr also appeared in Into the Woods and The Pirates of Penzance at Lyric Opera Cleveland, where she was a company member, and in over 120 productions at the Children’s Theatre Company in Minneapolis (where she served as associate artistic director for eight seasons). She was a company member of Seaside Music Theatre in Daytona Beach, where she worked with partner, Gary Briggle.
Stephanie Lynn Nelson (Daughter/Dance Captain) is delighted to make her ATC debut. She appeared in the Kansas City Repertory Theatre productions of Guys and Dolls, directed by David Ira Goldstein, and Company. Her most recent credits include Mayzie in Seussical – The Musical and The World Goes Around. She has performed at Starlight Theatre, The New Theatre, The Coterie Theatre, American Heartland Theatre and Lyric Opera of Kansas City. Ms. Nelson graduated from the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York City. She is a graduate in dance of UMKC and also trained with the San Francisco Ballet School and at American Dance Center in Kansas City. Her film credits include Body Shots and Passenger.
Mickey Nugent (Pirate/Policeman) was most recently seen in Rt. 66 at The Invisible Theatre in Tucson. He played the roles of Bobby Child in Crazy For You at Philadelphia’s Walnut Street Theater, George M.Cohan in Yankee Doodle Dandy at The Granbury Opera House in Texas and Bill Snibson in Me and My Girl. Other roles include Cosmo Brown in Singin’ in the Rain and Will Parker in Oklahoma. His national tour credits include Cats, Grease, and Godspell. Mr. Nugent is also a director/choreographer and just completed a production of Footloose in the Hamptons and will choreograph an upcoming production of Carousel.
Timothy McCuen Piggee (Pirate King) returns to ATC where he was last seen in Blues for an Alabama Sky. Recent credits include Don Quixote in Man of La Mancha, Miles Gloriosus in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Hoke in Driving Miss Daisy, Edmund in Wintertime and Mr. Applegate in Damn Yankees. Other credits include A Raisin in the Sun at Pioneer Theatre Company, The Colored Museum and Fences at Denver Center Theatre Company, and Jitney and Blues for an Alabama Sky at Milwaukee Repertory Theater. In Seattle, where he resides, he has appeared in Julius Caesar, Inspecting Carol, and My Good Name at Seattle Repertory Theatre, The Taming of the Shrew, Cymbeline, Crumbs from the Table of Joy, and Flyin’ West at Intiman Theatre. His film credits include After, Crocodile Tears, Men of Honor and Out Patient. He recently received the Seattle Artsfund Recognition Award for his work in 2003. Mr. Piggee is an assistant professor at Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle.
Mark C. Reis (Police Sergeant) is pleased to be making his ATC debut. On Broadway he appeared in Fosse and was in two national tours of Chicago. Other national tours include Jesus Christ Superstar with Ted Neeley and Carl Anderson, Funny Girl with Deborah Gibson, and 42nd Street. He has performed regionally at Paper Mill Playhouse, Goodspeed Opera House, Pioneer Theatre Company and North Carolina Theatre in roles such as Coyote Johnson and Will Parker. His television credits include The Rosie O’Donnell Show and Dream On. Before joining The Pirates of Penzance, Mr. Reis worked on Rosie O’Donnell’s “r family vacations” cruise.
Jennifer LyAnn Rose (Kate) is thrilled to be making her debut with ATC. She was most recently seen in Miss Saigon at Westchester Broadway Theatre. Her off-Broadway credits include Iolanthe (Phyllis), and The Mikado at City Center. She has also toured the Midwest with the New York Gilbert and Sullivan Players production of The Pirates of Penzance. Favorite roles include Rose in The Secret Garden, Necrophorus in Nine, Madeline Astor in Titanic, and Maria in West Side Story. She has also toured with the USO, as Miss USO 2003. She appeared at Madison Square Garden, Bob Hope’s 100th Birthday on the NBC Today Show, NYSE, MSNBC Scarborough Country, NY Jets Meadowland Arena, and the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Ms. Rose is a graduate of Northwestern University.
David Villella (Pirate/Policeman/Fight Captain) is making his debut with Arizona Theatre Company. On Broadway he appeared in the Tony Award-winning revival of Annie Get Your Gun (Original Cast Recording) starring Bernadette Peters and Reba McEntire. Off-Broadway he appeared in Boobs: The Musical and he toured nationally and internationally with Cats in the role of Rum Tum Tugger. His regional credits include Smokey Joe’s Café (Michael) at Pioneer Theatre Company, West Side Story (Bernardo) at the Marriott Theatre in Lincolnshire, Evita (Che) at Carousel Dinner Theatre, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (Pharoh) at Denver’s Arvada Center and West Virginia Public Theatre, Hot Mikado at Ford’s Theatre, Hair at North Shore Music Theatre, and Jesus Christ Superstar at Cherry County Playhouse. Mr. Villella is a graduate of Ithaca College.
