Laurence Ballard (Professor Moriarty) was last seen at ATC as Jaques in As You Like It. His other ATC credits include M. Butterfly, Shadow-lands, and The Old Matador. Nationally, he has worked at ACT Theatre, Arena Stage, Berkeley Repertory Theatre, The Empty Space Theatre, Eureka Theatre, Intiman Theatre, Joyce Theatre, Milwaukee Repertory Theater, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Portland Center Stage, San Jose Repertory Theatre, Seattle Repertory Theatre, StageWest, and The Group, among others. Internationally, Mr. Ballard has performed with Suzuki Tadashi’s company in Toga-mura, Mito City and Tokyo, Japan. His television and film credits include, The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial, Prefontaine, The Falcon, The Tale of Lear, and Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Erin Bennett (Madge Larrabee) is making her ATC debut. She recently appeared as Woman #1/Voice of Susan in the world premiere of Open Window at the Pasadena Playhouse, directed by Eric Simonson. Other Los Angeles theatre credits include the US Premiere of Noel Coward’s Star Quality (Pasadena Playhouse), Agnes in Moliere’s The School for Wives (A Noise Within), Peppermint Patty in Snoopy!!! (Falcon Theatre), and Debbie in Tom Stoppard’s The Real Thing at International City Theatre. Tour credits include The Odd Couple (Female Version) starring Barbara Eden, Titania in A Midsummer Night’s Dream (New Jersey Shakespeare Festival), and Vi Petty in Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story (Theatre League). She also performed with the Napa Valley Shakespeare Festival as Jessica in The Merchant of Venice and the Courtesan in Comedy of Errors. Ms. Bennett trained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and is a Boston University graduate.

H. Michael Croner (ensemble) is making his ATC debut. A BFA student at the University of Arizona, his stage credits include performances in Hamlet, Carousel, Pericles and Henry IV, I & II. He spent a summer in Chillicothe, Ohio performing in the outdoor drama Tecumseh.

Roberto Guajardo (Sid Prince) most recently appeared at ATC in Macbeth. Other ATC productions include Steven Dietz’ Over the Moon, Much Ado About Nothing, Wit, As You Like It, Picasso at the Lapin Agile, The Two Gentlemen of Verona, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Shadowlands, One Crazy Day, The Tempest, You Can’t Take It With You and The Matchmaker. Other regional appearances include Seattle Repertory Theatre and San Jose Repertory Theatre. Mr. Guajardo has worked extensively throughout Arizona, including performances at Invisible Theatre, Borderlands Theater, Beowulf Alley, The Flagstaff Festival of the Arts, Actor’s Lab in Scottsdale. Arizona Jewish Theatre Company, Actor’s Theatre in Phoenix and Phoenix Theatre, and has made numerous appearances on TV and film.

Jonathan Hicks (ensemble) is making his ATC debut. An Arizona native he is currently attending the University of Arizona in the BFA Acting program where his credits include Henry IV, I & II, Pericles, and The Rivals. Other productions outside of the U of A company include The Perfect Wedding at the Wilde Playhouse.

Preston Maybank (King of Bohemia) is making his ATC debut. He most recently appeared in the world premiere of The Further Adventures of Hedda Gabbler at South Coast Repertory where other productions include Much Ado About Nothing, Two Gentleman of Verona, Terra Nova, Cyrano de Bergerac, The Little Prince and The Hoboken Chicken Emergency. Other theatre credits include, Liars (Public Theater, N.Y.), Hucksters (Armitage Ballet/European Tour), The Foreigner (La Mirada), Tartuffe (Robbie Award), The Three Sisters, Major Barbara, School For Scandal (A Noise Within), Justice (Paddua Hills Playwright Festival), Sour Springs (Theatre For a New City), Family Affairs and The Vinegar Tree (Dorsett Theatre Festival). Kenneth Merckx, Jr. (James Larrabee/Fight Director) is making his ATC debut. His credits include Brick in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof at Contemporary American Theatre Company, Anthony in House of Yes at the Magic Theatre, Lysander in A Midsummer Night’s Dream at Portland Center Stage, Romeo in Romeo and Juliet for A Noise Within, D’Artagnan in Three Musketeers at Pacific Conservatory of the Performing Arts Theaterfest and Bo in Bus Stop at the Illinois Repertory Theatre. He has acted with Shakespeare companies in Oregon, Nevada, Idaho, Virginia, Oklahoma, Seattle, San Francisco and Illinois. His film and television credits include Without Limits, Orgazmo, Becker, Hunter, JAG, Veronica Mars, Power Rangers, Masked Rider, 16 Wheels of Justice and The Tonight Show. Mr. Merckx received his degrees in theatre from the Universities of Washington and Illinois. He is also the resident fight choreographer for the Idaho Shakespeare Festival, Cleveland’s Great Lakes Theatre Festival and A Noise Within in Los Angeles, and he creates scenes of violence for regional theatres and universities across the country.

Victor Talmadge (Dr. John Hamish Watson) is an actor, playwright, and director. He has performed on the New York stage and in regional theaters throughout the country including The Stratford Theatre Festival of Canada. His roles have ranged from Benedick in Much Ado About Nothing to Scar in the Los Angeles production of The Lion King and The King in the Broadway National tour of The King and I. Mr. Talmadge boasts extensive film and television credits. He has worked with such notable directors as Francis Ford Coppola, William Friedkin, David Fincher, Michael Apted and Chantal Ackerman, among others. Most recently, he was in Touchstone Picture’s Hidalgo, and can currently be seen in Big Momma’s House II. His play, The Gate of Heaven, was awarded The Nakashima Peace Prize and has been produced at The U.S. Holocaust Memorial, The Old Globe, Ford’s Theater, and The Annenberg Center, and other venues around the country. As a director, Mr. Talmadge has presented both experimental and classical pieces. He was the artistic director of The Victory Project, a collaborative event with the NYC school system, Columbia University graduate theater students, and professional theater artists, created as a response to the tragedy of 9/11.

Libby West (Irene Adler) is making her ATC debut. Favorite roles include Roxane in Cyrano, Cathy in Wuthering Heights, Tourvel in Dangerous Liaisons, Madge in Picnic, and Lady Macbeth. Off-Broadway she has appeared at The Promenade Theatre and The Public Theater. Regionally, she has appeared at the Mark Taper Forum, South Coast Repertory, American Conservatory Theater, Denver Center Theatre Company, The Old Globe, The Shakespeare Theatre, Intiman Theatre, Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, PlayMakers Repertory Company, IRT, Actors Theatre of Louisville, among others. Elsewhere in NYC and LA she has been seen at Theater at Boston Court, A Noise Within, The Actors Studio, Odyssey Theater, SoHo Repertory Theatre, West End Theatre, and The Galatea Collective, among others. Her film and television credits include Six Feet Under, As the World Turns, One Life to Life, All My Children, Two Weeks Notice, Divorce Be Gone, Fractalus, Who Flew, The Wedding Video, Iceman, Misanthrope, Ride of Passage, The Guests, Mirrorland, Dream House, Homecoming, Fluffy, Richard, The Take, and numerous indies. Ms. West is a Dean Goodman Choice Award winner and an Ovation and GLAAD Awards nominee. She received her MFA from NYU and is a Fox Foundation Fellow.

Steven Dietz (Playwright) is the author of twenty-plus plays which have been seen at over one hundred regional theatres in the United States, as well as off-Broadway. International productions have been seen in England, Japan, Germany, France, Australia, Sweden, Russia, Slovenia, Argentina, Peru, Singapore and South Africa. His work has been translated into seven languages. This is the sixth play by Mr. Dietz to premiere at ATC, following Over the Moon (adapted from P.G. Wodehouse), Inventing van Gogh, Dracula (adapted from Bram Stoker), Private Eyes and Rocket Man. Mr. Dietz received the 2002 Kennedy Center Fund for New American Plays Award for his play Fiction, produced off-Broadway by the Roundabout Theatre Company; the PEN USA West Award in Drama for Lonely Planet; and the Yomuiri Shimbun Award (the Japanese “Tony”) for his adaptation of Shusaku Endo’s novel, Silence. Other widely produced plays include God’s Country, The Nina Variations, Still Life with Iris, Trust, Halcyon Days, Ten November, and Handing Down the Names. His award-winning stage adaptations include Force of Nature (from Goethe), The Rememberer (from Joyce Simmons Cheeka), Paragon Springs (from Ibsen) and, with Allison Gregory, Go, Dog. Go! (from P.D. Eastman). His latest play, the Pulitzer-nominated Last of the Boys, ran earlier this season at Steppenwolf Theatre in Chicago.

Bill Forrester (Scenic Designer) designed ATC’s productions of The Pirates of Penzance, Oh Coward!, Much Ado About Nothing, My Fair Lady, Art, Picasso at the Lapin Agile, Valley Song, The Two Gentlemen of Verona, A Midsummer’s Night Dream, The Convict’s Return, Dracula and Shadowlands. He has designed sets for a number of theatres across the nation including ACT Theatre, Northlight Theatre, Geva Theatre, The Empty Space Theatre, Denver Center Theatre Company, Seattle Repertory Theatre, Intiman Theatre, Portland Center Stage, Tacoma Actors Guild, Colorado Shakespeare Festival, Alabama Shakespeare Festival, Honolulu Theatre for Youth, Yale Repertory Theatre, Utah Festival Opera and Utah Shakespearean Festival.

David Kay Mickelsen (Costume Designer) is designing his 44th production at ATC, his first being Journey’s End in the 1982-83 season. Last season he designed Macbeth, For Better or Worse and The Immigrant. Mr. Mickelsen has received seven ariZoni Awards for: My Fair Lady; HMS Pinafore; Lips Together, Teeth Apart; One Crazy Day or the Marriage of Figaro; Amadeus; Steven Dietz’s Dracula, and The Mystery of Irma Vep. He has designed over 200 productions in regional theatres across the country including: Denver Center Theatre Company; Guthrie Theater; Ford’s Theatre; Geffen Playhouse; ACT Theatre; Portland and Pennsylvania Center Stages; Ensemble Studio Theatre; the Oregon, Utah, Colorado and Illinois Shakespeare festivals; Cincinnati and Cleveland Playhouses; Pioneer and Northlight theatre companies; Berkeley, Seattle, Tennessee, Missouri, San Diego, New Mexico and St Louis repertory theatres; Williamstown and Sundance theatre festivals; and The Children’s Theatre Company of Minneapolis. Mr. Mickelsen is a member of United Scenic Artists. Originally from Canby, Oregon, he now makes his home in Long Beach, California.

Dennis Parichy (Lighting Designer) returns to ATC having designed lighting most recently for Talley’s Folly, A Streetcar Named Desire, and A Moon for the Misbegotten. He has worked on Broadway, off-Broadway, off-off Broadway, in regional theater and opera. Broadway credits include Talley’s Folly (Tony Nomination), Crimes of the Heart, As Is, Burn This, Penn & Teller: The Refrigerator Tour, Redwood Curtain (Tony Nomination), Coastal Disturbances, The Water Engine, and Fifth of July (Tony Nomination). He was resident lighting designer for Circle Repertory Company from 1975 to 1995 where he designed numerous premieres, including many of Lanford Wilson’s works. He designs frequently for many regional theaters, including Pittsburgh Public Theater, Seattle Repertory Theatre, Mark Taper Forum, The McCarter Theatre, Syracuse Stage, Huntington Theatre Company, and Long Wharf Theatre. He is an affiliated artist at The People’s Light and Theatre Company in Philadelphia, where he designs several shows a season, most recently Fabulation. He designed the American premieres of several of Athol Fugard’s recent plays, directed by Mr. Fugard, including Valley Song, My Children, My Africa, Sorrows and Rejoicings and Playland. He designed the lighting for Central City Opera Festival for three seasons and has done numerous operas at regional opera companies. He teaches lighting design at Purchase College. He has received an Obie, several DramaLogue Awards, the Drama Desk Award and an ariZoni Award for his designs.

Roberta Carlson (Composer) is a frequent guest artist at ATC. Her extensive composing credits here include Macbeth, Over the Moon, Much Ado About Nothing, Inventing van Gogh, The Mystery of Irma Vep, The Two Gentlemen of Verona and Dracula, and as musical director for Dirty Blonde and Scapin. She has been the recipient of three ariZoni Awards for her work. Recently, she has composed music for Torch Song Trilogy, Hapgood, Under Milkwood and Honor for Jungle Theater in Minneapolis. Other regional theatre credits include numerous productions at The Children’s Theatre Company of Minneapolis and the Guthrie Theater. Ms.Carlson composed the music for Steven Dietz’ first play, Brothers and Sisters.

Brian Jerome Peterson (Resident Sound Designer) celebrates his 20th season and 49th sound design for ATC, where he has designed, among others Crowns, Bad Dates, Macbeth, Permanent Collection, The Pirates of Penzance, The Immigrant, The Underpants, A Streetcar Named Desire, Oh Coward!, Over the Moon, Copenhagen, The Drawer Boy, Dirty Blonde, A Moon for the Misbegotten, Much Ado About Nothing, Fully Committed, Proof, 2 Pianos, 4 Hands, The Mystery of Irma Vep (for which he won an ariZoni Award), Loot, The Road to Mecca, and the world premieres of Inventing van Gogh, Rocket Man, Minor Demons, and The Holy Terror. His designs have been heard in many theatres including Berkeley Repertory Theatre, La Mirada Theater, Virginia Stage Company, Seattle Repertory Theatre, The Cleveland Play House, Coconut Grove Playhouse, Northlight Theatre, Kansas City Repertory Theatre, and San Jose Repertory Theatre. Mr. Peterson has produced for several music groups, including Cuerpos Sin Sombra, The Trade, Eye Pennies, and The Hillwilliams.

Glenn Bruner (Production Stage Manager) is in his ninth season at ATC where he has stage managed, among many others, Bad Dates, Pride and Prejudice, The Pirates of Penzance, Copenhagen, The Fantasticks, Much Ado About Nothing, 2 Pianos, 4 Hands and the world premieres of Steven Dietz’s Rocket Man, Inventing van Gogh, and Over the Moon. A stage manager since 1985, Mr. Bruner has worked at Kansas City Repertory Theatre, Alley Theatre, Dallas Theater Center, The Pasadena Playhouse, Center Stage, Studio Arena Theatre, Maine’s Portland Stage Company and Casa Mañana Musicals in Fort Worth. He was the ASM for the world premiere of On the Waterfront at The Cleveland Play House, and production stage manager for the off-Broadway premiere of Alan Ayckbourn’s Season’s Greetings. Mr. Bruner has also been the voice for many radio and television commercials and was an announcer for Texas Public Radio in his hometown of San Antonio.

John Kingsbury (Assistant Stage Manager) since 1998 has held the position of Director of Production at ATC. Stage management credits include Seattle Repertory Theatre, ACT Theatre, The Shakespeare Theatre in Washington, DC, Alley Theatre and PCPA Theaterfest. He has served on the faculties of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Alan Hancock College and the Cornish School for the Arts. Mr. Kingsbury is a Fulbright recipient and stage managed for De Nederlandse Oper in The Netherlands.

Bret Torbeck (Assistant Stage Manager) recently stage managed Crowns for ATC. He was production stage manager for a new musical, Miracle Brothers, at the Vineyard Theatre in New York. He is a regular stage manager for Seattle Repertory Theatre. In 2001-02, he stage managed the national tour of Proof. Mr. Torbeck has also worked at The Old Globe, American Conservatory Theater, Long Wharf Theatre, Pittsburgh Public Theater, Berkeley Repertory Theatre, Alley Theatre, and ACT Theatre.

Stacey Flores (Assistant to the Stage Manager) is in her fourth season with ATC where she was assistant to the stage manager on Hank Williams: Lost Highway, Pride and Prejudice, Macbeth, For Better or Worse, Anna in the Tropics, Oh Coward!, My Fair Lady, Fully Committed and 2 Pianos, 4 Hands. She has a BFA in Stage Management from Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches, Texas where she stage managed Follies, Terra Nova, Moon Over Buffalo, A View From the Bridge and the school’s cabaret troupe among many others. Last summer she stage managed A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Cyrano de Bergerac for Texas Shakespeare Festival.

Pasadena Playhouse under the leadership of Artistic Director Sheldon Epps, is the State Theatre of California. Now in its 87th year, the legendary theatre has enjoyed a long and illustrious history. In the 1930s and ’40s, the Pasadena Playhouse College of The Theatre provided essential training for students to succeed in Hollywood, both in front of the camera and behind it. Gloria Stuart (Titanic) was discovered by Hollywood talent agents while performing at the Pasadena Playhouse in 1931. Other notable stars who worked at the theatre before they were famous include Gene Hackman, Dustin Hoffman, Robert Preston, Dana Andrews, Leonard Nimoy, Charles Bronson, Sally Struthers and Mako. The Pasadena Playhouse produces more than 300 performances per year and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Each season reflects the rich variety of world drama, from classics to contemporary plays, from musicals to new works. The Pasadena Playhouse also offers a wide array of outreach programs and educational opportunities. Previous co-productions with ATC: Play On!, Blue and Talley’s Folly.
