A Glorious GALA 2007

On a chilly Saturday evening, Arizona Theatre Company celebrated its 2007-2008 season with its annual Gala on October 6th at the historic Temple of Music and Art. For the past fifteen years, this event has launched the arts season and has become a Tucson tradition. Major sponsors of the evening included Diamond Sponsor Joan and Donald Diamond, Platinum Sponsor The Jim Click Automotive Team, and Gold Sponsors Paul and Alice Baker, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona, the Frances Chapin Foundation, Raytheon Company and Wells Fargo. 

The event was a great success and ATC is pleased to report that the revenue goal was met with the help of Gala Chairs Harold and Maedell Dixon, a marvelous committee and supporters.  The highlights of the evening were, of course, Hershey Felder as Monsieur Chopin -- a perfect accompaniment to the elegance of the evening, as well as the delightful performances by the University of Arizona students and the student design showcase.  Attendees included University of Arizona President Dr. Robert and Mrs. Adrian Shelton (Honorary Chairs of Gala 2007) and Tucson Mayor Bob and Mrs. Beth Walkup.  Honorary Chair Governor Janet Napolitano could not attend but issued a proclamation in honor of The University of Arizona School of Theatre Arts.

This year ATC honored The University of Arizona School of Theatre Arts with the 2007 Georgy Award. Named for ATC’s Trustee Emeritus and benefactor George Rosenberg, the award is presented annually to individuals and organizations that have made a meaningful contribution to Arizona Theatre Company.  For over ten years, ATC and the School of Theatre Arts have been successful partners, creating many outstanding programs designed to give young aspiring artists opportunities for growth and experience with professional theatre. ATC has provided an excellent bridge for the students between the academic and professional worlds, helping numerous students launch their professional theatre careers. 

Arizona Theatre Company’s GALA 2007 is its major fundraiser of the year to support education and community-based programs that enhance the theatre experience and foster artists and audiences for the future.  For those who attended, we thank you for your support and making GALA 2007 a night to remember!
