Check back soon to read about the success of our 2007 Summer on Stage 2007 was a resounding success!  Arizona Theatre Company had the pleasure of working with 36 very talented high school students from 19 high schools in Southern Arizona and abroad.  While most of the students were from Tucson, Summer on Stage was also attended by students from Nogales and Rio Rico, AZ and as far away as Korea and France.  Students received training in stage combat, voice, movement, physical comedy, scene study, audition techniques, and technical theatre from Arizona Theatre Company staff, professional directors, musical directors, and designers.  Arizona Theatre Company was very happy to welcome Mark McCarthy and Lisa Rothschiller back for their second summer as directors and instructors.  Mark directed Lucky Stiff, a musical featuring 20 outstanding young actors, singers, and dancers, while Lisa directed Snow Angel, an ensemble play about 15 confused teens and one mysterious young girl during a blizzard in Vermont.  Both productions were very well attended, and audience members were extremely positive about the performances given by these amazing young people.  Pat and Dick Hine, grandparents of our two French participants, said this about Summer on Stage:  “This program shows how much fun and enthusiasm talented teen-agers can exhibit.  The students were very disciplined and still very generous to each other.  Both Abby and Em hope to return to the program next year.”  Parents, students, staff, and instructors echo these sentiments.  This year’s Summer on Stage students not only learned a great deal about theatre, they also learned about working together and collaborating on an artistic venture.
