Book by Hershey Felder
Created and performed by Hershey Felder

Phoenix: October 11 - 28, 2007
An international hit makes its Arizona premiere when multi-talented
Hershey Felder kicks off our season with
his widely-acclaimed musical play. Evoking Gershwin’s
famous radio broadcasts of the 1930s, George Gershwin
Alone explores the life, talent and spirit of the legendary
composer – from his early days as an audacious Tin Pan
Alley novice, to his breakthrough success with Rhapsody
in Blue, to fame and fortune as a songwriter during the
glamorous era of the 1930s Broadway and Hollywood, and finally
to the deeply felt social consciousness if masterpieces like
Porgy and Bess. A Steinway Concert Artist, actor
and playwright, Hershey Felder is the only individual to whom
the Gershwin heirs have granted permission to create the role
of George Gershwin on stage.

in your heart so long held.”
Touch the Names
Letters to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial
Conceived by Randal Myler and Chic Street Man
With original music by Chic Street Man
Directed by Randal Myler
Tucson: October 16 – November 4, 2007
Phoenix: November 8 – 25, 2007
We must forever honor and never forget the sacrifices made
in our name. Touch the Names is a deeply powerful
tribute to the men and women whose names live forever on the
Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC. In a stirringly
theatrical reminder of every war’s human toll, we hear
the voices of the survivors as they honor and celebrate the
all-too-brief lives of spouses, parents, friends and strangers.
Taken verbatim from the thousands of letters and mementos
that have been left at the base of the wall since 1982, this
play is an eloquent portrait of the many lives that were touched
by the Vietnam War. Touch the Names offers a rare
opportunity to set aside our differences and share a moment
of understanding, as politics fade into the background and
love takes center stage. Created by the man who brought us
Love, Janis, Hank Williams: Lost Highway and It
Ain’t Nothin’ but the Blues, Randal Myler’s
stunning creativity is accompanied by the soulful poetry of
live music written and performed by the renowned Chic
Street Man.
“Hey there, you with the stars in your eyes, Love never made a fool of you. You use to be too wise.”
The Pajama Game
Music and Lyrics by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross
Book by George Abbott and Richard Bissell
Directed by David Ira Goldstein
Tucson: November 24 – December 15, 2007
Phoenix: December 31, 2007 – January 20, 2008
Bright and brassy. Sexy and sassy. There’s unrest at the Sleep Tite pajama factory when Sid and Babe sit on opposite sides of the negotiating table clashing over a seven-and-a-half cent raise. But love threatens to shut down the plant as the battle of the sexes plays out in this rollicking classic from the Golden Age of musical comedy. The Pajama Game is a hit parade of irresistible songs including “Steam Heat,” “Hernando’s Hideaway” and “Hey There (You with the Stars in Your Eyes).” Stitched together for ATC by the same creative team who delighted us with the sold-out hits My Fair Lady and The Pirates of Penzance, The Pajama Game is a rambunctious pillow fight full of jazzy songs, hot dance and exuberant laughter.
“I had gone to bed Henry Jekyll, I had awakened
Edward Hyde.”
Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
By Jeffrey Hatcher
From the story by Robert Louis Stevenson
Directed by David Ira Goldstein
Tucson: January 12 – February 2, 2008
Phoenix: February 7 - 24, 2008
What happened the night that Henry Jekyll died? Against the
backdrop of Victorian London, the respected Dr. Jekyll has
begun to display alarmingly erratic behavior toward his friends.
At the same time, a brutal figure has begun to haunt the city’s
streets, committing assault and murder under the cloak of
darkness and the dismal London fog. In The Strange Case
of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Dr. Jekyll’s friend
and lawyer confronts the monstrous Mr. Hyde in a series of
Rashomon-like scenes that attempt to answer the puzzles
at the heart of a tortured soul. Nationally renowned playwright
and ATC favorite Jeffrey Hatcher (Compleat Female Stage
Beauty, The Turn of the Screw, Work Song: Three Views of Frank
Lloyd Wright, Tuesdays With Morrie, Ella) brings Robert
Louis Stevenson’s classic tale of inner demons and evil
unchecked to ATC’s stage in a theatrically intense,
intimate and fiendishly clever world premiere. This new spin
on one of literature’s great masterpieces will be directed
by ATC Artistic Director David Ira Goldstein, who previously
directed the world premieres of two other Victorian classics
for ATC, Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure and
Dracula.
"You never really know a man until you stand in his
shoes and walk around in them."

Atticus Finch, defends a legal battle that reveals fired of
prejudice burning through the South where black and white,
rich and poor, young and old struggle to find common ground
and survive. To Kill A Mockingbird is the first production

Stories initiative. This ambitious multi-year series

“When I was a child I thought: if the floor is dirty,
look at the ceiling. It is always clean.”
The Clean House
By Sarah Ruhl
Directed by Jon Jory
Tucson: April 5 – 26, 2008
Phoenix: May 1 - 18, 2008
Matilde is the child of the two funniest people in Brazil.
She has gotten a job as a cleaning woman for an American doctor
with no sense of humor – which doesn’t really
matter since all her jokes are in Portuguese anyway. And even
though she’s a complete failure at dusting, ironing
and vacuuming, she is still a catalyst for cleaning up the
lives of the people she meets. The Clean House is
a mischievously comic look at the dark secrets we sweep under
the rug. This off-Broadway hit was written by Sarah
Ruhl, who this year was a McArthur Genius Award-winner
and is one of the brightest new playwriting talents of the
American stage. The New York Times called it, “One
of the finest and funniest new plays you’re likely to
see this season … a play that keeps revealing surprising
insights, whimsical images and layers of rich feeling as it
goes along.”
